Iran, suspecting the motives behind US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire extension, warned that if the United States continues its naval blockade against Iran, Iran could also respond militarily.

Iran's state broadcaster reported on the 22nd (local time), shortly after President Trump's announcement of the ceasefire extension, that Iran would not recognize the US ceasefire extension and would act according to its national interests.

Tasnim, an Iranian semi-official news agency, reported that the continuation of the US naval blockade is an act of hostility, and as long as the blockade continues, Iran will at least not open the Strait of Hormuz, and if necessary, will lift the blockade by force.

A staffer for Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said on X (formerly Twitter) on the 21st, that "Trump's ceasefire extension is clearly a ploy to buy time for a surprise attack," and urged Iran to counter the US naval blockade with a "military response."

Speaker Ghalibaf is a figure expected to lead the Iranian delegation if a second round of negotiations between the US and Iran takes place.
