LG-NVIDIA Strengthens Technical Alliance to Expand K-EXAONE Ecosystem

Discussion on Joint Development of Specialized Models Combining EXAONE-NEMOTRON

Koo Kwang-mo Holds Consecutive Meetings with Founders of Palantir and SkydAI Earlier This Month

LG AI Research Institute and NVIDIA have decided to strengthen their technical alliance to expand the ecosystem of LG's proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model, 'K-EXAONE.'

LG announced on the 22nd that LG AI Research Institute executives, including Co-Director Lim Woo-hyung and EXAONE Lab Head Lee Jin-sik, met with NVIDIA executives, including Brian Catanzaro, Vice President of Applied Research at NVIDIA, and Jung So-young, Head of NVIDIA Korea, to discuss strategies for next-generation AI model development cooperation and joint AI ecosystem construction.

NVIDIA executives visited Korea for the Nemotron Developer Conference, organized to share research achievements of their open-source based AI model, 'Nemotron.'

During this meeting, both companies agreed to expand the scope of cooperation, including jointly developing specialized models by combining LG's AI model 'EXAONE' and NVIDIA's Nemotron.

LG AI Research Institute and NVIDIA have maintained close technical cooperation in the development process ranging from EXAONE 3.0 to K-EXAONE and EXAONE 4.5, which was unveiled earlier this month.

LG AI Research Institute utilized Nemotron during the EXAONE development process to secure data learning quality, while NVIDIA supported AI model development by providing the latest Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), AI development platforms, and inference performance enhancement software.

This cooperation has also led to tangible results.

In the 'AI Index Report' recently published by Stanford University's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) in the U.S., five Korean models were cited as notable AI models, placing Korea third after the U.S. and China.

Four of these five were LG AI Research Institute's EXAONE series: ▲ 'EXAONE Deep,' Korea's first inference model ▲ 'EXAONE Path 2.0,' an AI specialized for healthcare ▲ 'EXAONE 4.0,' Korea's first hybrid model ▲ and 'K-EXAONE,' a national representative AI model.

Brian Catanzaro, Vice President, said, "NVIDIA has joined forces to make EXAONE the best AI model in Korea," adding, "The combination of LG EXAONE and NVIDIA Nemotron will lead sovereign AI and contribute to ecosystem expansion."

Director Lim Woo-hyung stated, "NVIDIA has been a key technical partner in the development of EXAONE," and "We will further expand the cooperation between the two companies to the spread of the R&D ecosystem and create tangible sovereign AI achievements in industrial fields."

Meanwhile, Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, met consecutively with Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir, a global leader in AX (AI Transformation), and Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta, co-founders of SkydAI, a world authority in physical AI, in Silicon Valley earlier this month to share opinions on accelerating AX.
