U.S. President Donald Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump said there could be "good news" as early as April 24 (local time) regarding the second round of peace negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, the U.S. daily New York Post reported on the 22nd.
Citing Pakistani sources, the New York Post reported that further talks with Iran appear possible "within 36 to 72 hours" due to positive mediation efforts.
The New York Post reported that when asked about this possibility, President Trump responded via text message, "Possible! President DJT (Trump's initials)."
This news comes just a day after President Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire until Iranian leadership presents a 'unified proposal'.
A Pakistani source said that since President Trump's announcement, Pakistan has continuously maintained diplomatic channels with Iran, and the timing of further talks (within 36 to 72 hours) is based on an assessment of these mediation efforts.
The source explained, "The fact that the ceasefire is being maintained despite heightened rhetoric shows that both sides have positive intentions," adding, "Currently, there is no military escalation from either side."
He added, "Pakistan is still playing a key mediating role."
