CryptoSlate warned that as artificial intelligence (AI) advances, cryptocurrency scam methods are becoming more sophisticated, and vigilance is needed. The outlet explained, "According to a report from the founder of a cryptocurrency project, he was confirmed to have had his laptop hacked after falling victim to a deepfake scam impersonating a Cardano (ADA) Foundation official. The hacker requested a video call, impersonating a Foundation official with whom the victim had previously communicated. During the call, both the voice and face matched the victim's memory. However, the connection was not smooth, and a message appeared stating that a Microsoft Teams (video conferencing platform) update was required. The problem is that even the tech-savvy victim accepted this situation naturally and proceeded with the actual software update, thereby being exposed to hacking."
