The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a warning regarding Iran's demand for toll payments from vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the warning, Iran may demand digital assets (virtual assets) as tolls for the Strait of Hormuz, but paying them constitutes a violation of U.S. sanctions. It was also mentioned that U.S. persons cannot transact with Iranian digital asset exchanges, and these exchanges are considered 'Iranian financial institutions' subject to sanctions. If foreign nationals use Iranian virtual asset exchanges, they may be subject to secondary sanctions, which could block their access to the U.S. financial system, as it would be considered supporting Iran's financial sector.
