▲ Bitcoin (BTC) bull market
Bitcoin (BTC) has surpassed $80,000 after a 30-day rebound. In response, the creator of Bollinger Bands officially mentioned the entry into a new bull market, and market sentiment is rapidly changing.
According to cryptocurrency media Bitcoin.com on May 7 (local time), John Bollinger, the creator of Bollinger Bands and founder of Bollinger Capital Management, stated that his trend model for Bitcoin has turned positive. Bollinger said via social media, "Yesterday, our trend model for Bitcoin turned positive, and we took a position in the Tactica program. We are now fully invested."
Bitcoin.com reported that Bollinger's latest statement is his first clear bullish assessment since 2025. In January, Bollinger mentioned the possibility of a breakthrough in the Bitcoin-dollar trading pair but warned, "If it fails here, we go back into the trenches." This time, he emphasized a trend reversal rather than cautious warnings.
Bollinger Bands are one of the widely used technical indicators in the trading industry, used to assess whether an asset's price is relatively high or low and to help investors design strategies dynamically. With Bollinger, the creator of the indicator, directly mentioning a bull market transition, there has been a positive response from the trading industry.
Tom Lee also contributed to the shift in market sentiment. He expressed agreement with Bollinger's assessment, stating that a new crypto spring has arrived. Bitcoin.com reported that Bitcoin has performed positively over the past 30 days, even amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Bitcoin started April below the $70,000 mark and has surpassed $80,000 at the time of writing. Some analysts, including Bollinger, are weighing on the possibility of further short-term gains, and Bitcoin.com reported that the bear market is weakening, and expectations for a new bull market are growing.
