A hearing on Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm's request for acquittal is underway, with the presiding judge expected to reach a conclusion within weeks, DL News reported. Storm was convicted last year on charges of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business, but the jury could not reach a verdict on charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and sanctions evasion. The defense argued that the prosecution failed to prove the crime and emphasized that operating a cryptocurrency mixer itself is legal. Conversely, the prosecution asserted that the evidence presented by the prosecution in court was valid. If the judge rules in favor of the prosecution, a retrial could be held later this year.
