The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on the 18th (local time) that a report was received stating that two speedboats linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked a tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz near Oman.
According to Reuters, UKMTO quoted the tanker's captain as saying that two speedboats fired without warning via radio communication at a point 20 nautical miles (about 37 km) northeast of Oman, and both the vessel and its crew are safe.
Reuters also reported, citing shipping industry sources, that several merchant ships received a radio message from the Iranian navy today stating, 'The Strait of Hormuz is closed again. Ships cannot pass.'
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the temporary lifting of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz the previous day, but within a day, the Iranian military announced that it would re-impose traffic control due to the US naval blockade.
