U.S. President Donald Trump posted on social media on the 21st (local time), stating, "The agreement currently being pursued with Iran will be much better than the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, Iran nuclear deal)." President Trump criticized the JCPOA, saying it was "drafted by Barack Obama and Joe Biden, one of the worst agreements in American security history," and "a guaranteed path to nuclear weapons." He continued, "The previous administration sent $1.7 billion in cash to Iran on a Boeing 757, and hundreds of billions of dollars were paid to Iran," claiming, "If I had not terminated that agreement, nuclear weapons would have been used to attack Israel, the entire Middle East, and U.S. military bases." He emphasized, "If an agreement is reached during the Trump administration, it will guarantee peace and security not only for Israel and the Middle East but also for Europe, the United States, and the entire world."
