A coalition of more than 20 cryptocurrency companies and organizations, led by the US crypto lobby group DeFi Education Fund (DEF), has requested the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to establish guidelines related to DeFi interfaces as official regulations. According to Eleanor Terrett, host of Crypto in America, they stated that long-term regulatory clarity is difficult to secure with only informal guidelines. Previously, the SEC had provided guidance that some DeFi frontends and wallets might not be subject to broker-dealer regulations. However, the industry is concerned that if official regulations are not established, the SEC could expand the definition of a broker to include software developers in the future.
