Online shopping reaches 24.1 trillion won, highest ever for the same month
In April, online shopping transaction value set an all-time high for the same month.
According to the 'April Online Shopping Trends' released by the National Data Agency on the 1st, the online shopping transaction value in April was 24.128 trillion won, an increase of 10% (2.1856 trillion won) compared to the same period last year.
This is the largest scale for April since related statistics began to be compiled in 2017.
Online shopping transaction value has been steadily increasing due to the activation of online transactions.
Automobiles and automotive parts (154.8%) more than doubled, leading the increase.
Due to the increased delivery of Tesla's electric vehicles, which operates an online ordering system, online shopping transaction value for automobiles and automotive parts has been continuously increasing since the second half of last year.
Notably, the growth rate of transaction value for automobiles and automotive parts in April was the highest in 4 years and 11 months since May 2021 (187.7%).
The growth rates of food and beverages (9.6%) and food services such as delivery (7.8%) also stood out.
In contrast, other services (-42.6%) and culture and leisure services (-6.3%) saw decreases.
An official from the Data Agency explained, "In the case of other services, the impact of a specific company operating an online rental service discontinuing its business has been affecting it for almost a year," adding, "Culture and leisure services have a base effect from the many performances by major idols last year."
By product category, the transaction value composition ratios were highest for food services (14.4%), food and beverages (13.9%), and travel and transportation services (11.8%), in that order.
Among online shopping, mobile shopping transaction value increased by 8.6% (1.4596 trillion won) to 18.4382 trillion won.
The proportion of mobile shopping in the total transaction value was 76.4%, a decrease of 1 percentage point (p) compared to a year ago.
