Justin Sun, founder of TRON (TRX), has ignited a debate over virtual asset censorship by directly criticizing the blacklist feature of a specific financial project.
According to crypto media outlet BeInCrypto on April 12 (local time), Sun strongly criticized World Liberty Financial's blacklist feature. Sun pointed out that this feature undermines the core principles of decentralized finance and argued that the structure itself, which arbitrarily restricts specific addresses, is dangerous.
Sun emphasized that if the blacklist feature is introduced, network participants' access rights to assets could be controlled by a central authority. He expressed concern about the project's operational method, stating, “The ability to freeze or restrict assets in decentralized finance is fundamentally inconsistent with its philosophy.” These remarks are interpreted as a backlash against the 'controllable blockchain' model that has emerged amid recent trends of strengthened regulation.
World Liberty Financial is known to have introduced a feature that can restrict specific addresses to enhance regulatory compliance. This feature was designed to block illegal fund flows and strengthen security, but at the same time, it is sparking controversy over centralization. The industry suggests that a full-fledged debate has begun regarding the balance between regulatory response and decentralized values.
Sun particularly cited 'censorship resistance' as a key element differentiating blockchain from traditional financial systems, warning that this feature could erode ecosystem trust in the long run. He pointed out that if projects focus solely on short-term regulatory compliance, they could risk losing their user base.
In the virtual asset market, conflicts between regulatory compliance and decentralized principles are becoming increasingly frequent. Some projects are strengthening control features to attract institutional funds, while others oppose this view, seeing it as a degradation of decentralized values. This debate is emerging as a major variable in determining the future direction of the digital asset ecosystem.
