Tesla, led by Elon Musk, has begun expanding its autonomous robotaxi operating areas.
On the 18th (local time), Tesla announced via its official robotaxi X (formerly Twitter) account that "Robotaxi is now launching services in Dallas and Houston (Texas)."
The account posted a video of a Tesla vehicle driving with no one inside, followed by the text "All by myself," which is interpreted to mean completely driverless operation without a safety driver.
Tesla also released maps showing the actual operating areas in the two cities.
According to the maps, the Dallas area covers the city center, centered around Highland Park, but the Houston area only targets an outer region approximately 25km northwest of the city center.
However, specific details such as the number of vehicles or fares were not mentioned.
Previously, Tesla launched a robotaxi service with safety drivers in Austin, Texas, in June last year, and then expanded its operating area to San Francisco, California, in July.
Then, in January this year, it transitioned the Austin area service to driverless operation without safety personnel.
During its earnings announcement in January, Tesla stated that it planned to expand robotaxi operations to Dallas and Houston, as well as Phoenix, Arizona; Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, Florida; and Las Vegas, Nevada, within the first half of the year.
Google's autonomous taxi 'Waymo,' a competitor to Tesla's robotaxi, operates in over 10 US cities, including Dallas and Houston, where Tesla has now entered.
Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, also directly promoted the service by posting on X, "Experience Robotaxi in Dallas and Houston."
