President Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 21st (local time), ahead of the second peace talks with Iran, that "ultimately, we will have a great deal."
President Trump said this in a phone interview with CNBC on the same day, adding, "I don't think they have any other choice."
President Trump said that Iran has no choice but to send a negotiating team, and that the second peace talks would be successful.
He added, "I think we are in a very strong negotiating position to do what other (U.S.) presidents should have done over the last 47 years."
President Trump drew a line, saying he "does not want to" extend the ceasefire with Iran.
The United States and Iran are scheduled to attempt a second peace negotiation in Islamabad, Pakistan, today, ahead of the ceasefire deadline.
A delegation led by Vice President JD Vance will participate in the negotiations for the United States. The Iranian side is expected to be led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament.
The two countries agreed to a 'two-week ceasefire' on the 7th, with the original ceasefire deadline considered to be the 21st. However, President Trump announced the previous day that the ceasefire with Iran would last until the evening of the 22nd (KST morning of the 23rd) in U.S. Eastern Time.
During their first negotiations on the 11th-12th, the two countries failed to find common ground on key issues such as uranium enrichment limits and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and have since continued discussions behind the scenes through Pakistan.
