Ripple has taken steps to strengthen industry-wide security systems to counter hacking threats linked to North Korea.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet CryptoPotato, Ripple recently announced its participation in a new security cooperation framework for sharing cyber threat information related to North Korea.
Ripple emphasized that the cryptocurrency industry as a whole has been continuously exposed to hacking attacks, and a stronger response is needed, especially as North Korea-linked organizations are identified as major perpetrators. Indeed, recent large-scale hacking incidents have also been linked to North Korean-related forces.
The core of this measure is 'information sharing'. Through a security cooperation network called Crypto ISAC, Ripple shares threat data such as malicious wallet addresses, phishing domains, and Indicators of Compromise (IOCs). Beyond simple data provision, advanced information including specific profiles such as email, phone numbers, and behavioral patterns will be shared.
Ripple stated that individual companies responding separately have limitations and that the entire industry should build a joint response system. The explanation is that if an attacker is blocked by one company, they will target another, so without information sharing, the same threats will recur.
Furthermore, Crypto ISAC has built an API that allows real-time utilization of threat information, enabling companies to detect attacks early and respond collaboratively.
This decision reflects the reality that as the virtual asset market grows, security risks also expand. As Ripple aims to be a global digital financial infrastructure beyond a simple technology company, it is evaluated to be taking the lead in the security domain.
