Police are investigating a complaint alleging that a company in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, committed fraud worth tens of billions of won under the guise of coin investment.
The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced on the 13th that it is investigating a complaint received from 7 individuals, requesting an investigation into company A located in Bucheon and its associates on charges of fraud.
The total damages claimed by the complainants amount to 8.9 billion won, with individuals reporting losses ranging from hundreds of millions of won to approximately 2 billion won.
The complainants state that company A enticed investors by saying, "If you invest in overseas-listed coins through our company, we can pay a monthly interest of 5% with the principal guaranteed."
It is reported that company A set up an office in Bucheon, held related lectures, and conducted promotional activities.
The complainants claim that since last year, the company has not been paying back the principal and interest to investors, citing internal financial problems.
The police began their investigation in August of last year after receiving related complaints.
Most of the victims confirmed by the police so far are reportedly elderly individuals aged 60 or older.
It is also known that there are victims who have not yet filed a complaint, so the scale of damages reported to the police may increase in the future.
A police official said, "We are investigating company A, including conducting search and seizure operations, to confirm the exact scale of damages and charges."
